Error - Blacked-out images taken.

A description and troubleshooting steps for Error 104 - Blacked-out photo taken.

General Resolution
Turn the main switch off, wait 5 seconds, then turn it on again.  Retry the sort.  If the issue persists, check the interior of the scanner to see if the camera is blocked.

The blacked-out photo error means that the PhyzBatch took a black image where it was expecting to see a card and/or lighted scanner interior.  It can be caused by a few things:

  • Initializing the camera took too long
  • The camera is blocked by something inside the scanner
  • The interior lighting is not turning on

Try turning the main switch of the PhyzBatch off, then turn it on again.  This will reset the control board, which manages the interior lighting.  Retry starting the sort.  If the issue persists, check the lights by clicking Turn Light On and checking the interior of the scanner.

If the lights are working and the reset did not fix the issue, check to see if there is anything blocking the camera:

  • Open the side of the scanner.
  • Loosen the 2 screws at the top of the metal plate under the glass tray, and remove the bottom screw
  • Loosen the two thumb screws and remove the plate.

  • Check the interior of the scanner to see if anything is blocking the camera.  If there is, remove it.

  • reinstall the metal plate, following the reverse steps to the above.  Make sure the plate/thumbscrews are tight, pressing the plate up against the black plastic glass tray.  It is this upwards pressure which holds the glass firm against the foam rollers.  Tighten the smaller screws once the thumbscrews are sufficiently tightened.

If nothing is blocking the camera, the lights are functioning, and resetting the power does not resolve the issue, please contact Support for further assistance.
