Landing Plate Troubleshooting

How to remove the metal landing pad, comprised of the base and the plate, from the scanner assembly for out-of-the-ordinary maintenance and cleaning.

Note: these instructions are relevant to most Phyzbatch-9000 machines shipped since October, 2023. They will also likely be mostly applicable for machines shipped prior to that date, however, there may be additional steps, which are detailed below. If you are unsure about the revision of your machine or how this guide may apply to you, contact Support. We can work through your specific machine's procedure for this process.

It is not commonly necessary to remove the landing pad, but in order to change the new feed wheels this part must also be removed, shown below highlighted in green. You also may notice debris there on rare occasions. You can also easily clean the inner portions of the scanner bay with this part removed. Such defects, on very rare occasion, can lead to card damage - but again, this is a very rare occurance. Typically you will not need to perform this maintenance - a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth should normally suffice. Generally, someone from Support will tell you if you need to perform this particular bit of maintenance.

For this procedure, you'll need a 2.5 mm Allen wrench, and the T4 Hex screw driver bit.

The first thing you need to do is remove the feed fixer from the scanner module. Open the scanner bay door, and remove the back panel of the scanner using these screws:

If your machine shipped prior to October 2023, follow the steps in this video to remove the housing of the scanner so that you can access the screws within. Remember  that you only need to go until you can access the screws indicated below and are able to remove the landing pad.

Inside, you'll see two screws on each side. Remove them (in the images below they were pre-removed, but you'll be able to find them there). You can also remove the glass tray.

Once all four screws are removed, you can pull the feed fixer straight up from the top.

After removing the feed fixer, you can remove the tails. Unscrew the thumb screws and pull them straight backwards towards you, and they should slide right off.

You can also remove the scanner bay door by removing the screws holding it in place on the top and bottom. We recommend taking out the top one first:

Once the screws are out, gently lift the door out of the scanner. You should have both sides of the scanner now completely exposed. On both sides there are a set of two screws holding the landing pad in place. You can remove each:

Now that those screws are out and you've removed the rear tails, you should see the following:

Using a T9 hex screwdriver bit, remove these three screws so indicated above. Now you can finally try to remove the entire landing pad!

Be careful at this stage as you don't want to cut yourself. You'll want to use one hand to apply a little bit of pressure to either side of the walls and gently pull the whole landing pad a little up and then straight back. Again, be careful here. You'll notice the grabber rollers are much more exposed here now - this is therefore an excellent time to clean them and the glass pane before beginning reassembly. If there are any burrs or rough parts along the edge of the landing pad, you can attempt to sand them down. We recommend starting with 300-grit sandpaper and working up to 5000, though again this would be an uncommon need and likely won't need to be performed.

To reassemble, repeat the steps in reverse. When putting the landing pad back in, aim for between the two grabber rollers, and try to line up the screw holes on each side. You can use your finger on the top of the landing pad to push down if needed, just remember to wipe off any finger prints! Once the pad is in place, loosely screw in the four side screws to maintain position, then tighten evenly.
